2015･12･05－夏邦泰／聖桑／浦朗克 | Charpentier / Saint-Saëns / Poulenc
For our 15th anniversary finale, we bring you a selection of French Christmas classics from the Baroque period to the 20th century. Charpentier is remembered as one of the most outstanding composers in the 17th century France. His Midnight Mass is the most popular French mass of the Baroque era, and is the first to base entirely on carols of the time. Equally prolific, Saint-Saëns is as at home writing for the human voice as for instruments. His Christmas Oratorio was completed within two weeks while he was the Titular Organist at La Madeleine, Paris at the age of 23. The third composer in the mix, Poulenc, is also a Parisian and is well known for his distinctive melodies and the transparent quality in his music, as in his Four Christmas Motets. Come and discover for yourself the unique taste of French Christmas music!
